Six months on the calendar.A different thing in practice.
Hurricane season opens June first and runs through November. What those dates actually mean for a gulf stay, and how to plan inside them honestly.
[ the season is a permission slip, not a forecast. ]

The short version
Hurricane season runs June through November, and the dates describe a window rather than a forecast: early season is statistically quiet on this coast, the serious traffic historically concentrates from late August through early October, and any single week, anywhere, is most likely ordinary. Planning inside the season honestly means three habits: flexible bookings, a forecast watched from ten days out, and a willingness to move without drama if the map says so. Held to those, half the year stays bookable.
What the dates mean
The season's boundaries are administrative: the six months in which the Atlantic basin historically produces its storms. Within them the risk is not spread evenly, not across the calendar and not across the map. On the gulf coast the early weeks are usually quiet, the deep season runs roughly late August through early October, and November mostly performs its role on paper.
None of which forecasts any given week. The season produces storms; it does not schedule them, and the same September that empties one coast leaves another untouched. The only usable truths are statistical, which is exactly why the honest advice is about habits rather than dates.
The three habits
Book with room to move: dates that can shift, and an operator who will shift them without a negotiation. Watch the forecast from about ten days out, which is when the ocean starts keeping appointments; before that, ignore the internet's weather theater entirely. And if the coast is told to leave, leave early, calmly, and completely, and let the week be rebuilt afterwards.
Held to those three, the season stops dictating the calendar. Half the year lives inside those dates, including some of the coast's best weeks.
Tell us the dates and we will be plain about the season's terms: the flexibility built in, the forecast watched, the honest call made early if it ever comes to that.
