Why it works at child height
The gulf here is the gentlest version of the sea a child can be introduced to: warm from late spring, clear over pale sand, and shallow enough that an adult standing waist-deep supervises a whole flotilla. Holmes Beach, mid-island, is the family default: the broadest sand, the most accesses, and the trolley line through the middle of everything. The north end trades a little convenience for calm, good with babies, quieter water at the bay beaches when the gulf chops up. Bradenton Beach puts teenagers within walking distance of noise, which they will call independence.
Whatever the end, the house wants three things: a ground-floor rinse point for the sand economy, shade the afternoon can live in, and bedrooms far enough from the porch that the adults' evening does not end at the children's.
